BSE Star MF: BSE may sell minority stake in StAR MF, shares jump 4%


Leading stock exchange BSE is mulling to sell a minority stake in its mutual fund distribution platform StAR MF, ET NOW reported quoting sources.

The report further added that ICICI Securities has been appointed as banker to the transaction.

Top fintech companies, banks and global investors are lined up for StAR MF platform stake, the report said, adding BSE did not respond to ET NOW queries.

Sources added that the valuation of StAR MF is being seen at around Rs 2,000 crore.

Shares of BSE traded 4.19 per cent up at Rs 543.90 after the report at around 11.35 am (IST), while the NSE Nifty index traded 22 points, or 0.17 per cent, down at 12,749 at around the same time.

StAR MF had processed 76.74 lakh transactions worth Rs 22,828 crore in October.

In comparison, the platform had done 71.93 lakh transactions in the preceding month, the exchange said in a statement.

Amid the nationwide lockdown, BSE StAR MF has helped asset management companies (AMCs), members and their clients in smooth paperless transactions.

Overall, the platform achieved 4.76 crore transactions during the April-October period of the ongoing fiscal 2020-21.

Besides, the platform registered 2.94 lakh new systematic investment plans (SIPs) amounting to Rs 74.5 crore in October 2020, the exchange said.

StAR MF’s current SIP book size is 55.68 lakh.

The exchange had launched BSE StAR MF app to help distributors and independent financial advisors to register clients on a real-time basis.
