‘Destiny 2’ Reveals New PvP Maps, Returning Exotic Missions

Bungie did its third and final Into the Light livestream for its upcoming Destiny 2 content which focused on returning classic exotic missions and a first look at the PvP map pack coming in May.

The additional exotic missions are not exactly a shock, and a good chunk of the stream was mainly just discussing their creation. And of course they and their rewards will have to be tweaked for the current state of Destiny 2 in 2024.

Exotic Missions

Whisper mission returning for Whisper of the Worm (Out at Into the Light launch) – Eris Morn gives you a way to get into Whisper rather than waiting for the right public event on Io (I think it goes without saying Io itself is not being unvaulted, and this is a self-contained instance).

New chests locations, new secrets, new surprises, old guides and walkthroughs won’t work anymore. First secret chest room in Whisper removed, for instance. The boss fight has changed in Whisper in some unrevealed way.

Zero Hour missing returning for Outbreak Prime (Out in May) – New enemies like Brigs in the mission. Both missions had to beef up the number of combatants in encounters due to Guardian strength now. There is still a timer like the original one, but on Normal it’s 40 minutes. Legend is 20 minutes.

They were surprised that the individual sections held up as well as they did, and there isn’t that much that can be bypassed even with new tools. They didn’t nerf mobility tools like sword skating or grapple for challenges. Again, more secrets are now different. Keycards have been replaced by something else. Boss also changed like Whisper.

Both Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Prime will have craftable versions as rewards for these missions, like the other exotic rotator missions. If you have the catalysts already, you keep them. Other perks have 3 week questline like other craftable exotics.

  • Whisper perks: Mulligan, Field Prep, No Distractions, Enlightened Action. Whispered Breathing. Whisper geting a reserve ammo bump.
  • Outbreak perks: Outlaw, Rapid Hit, Rewind Rounds, Headseeker.

Unlockable ships are returning. They are new ships, not the old versions people have had for years. Improved Drifter ship from Zero Hour into something else. Outbreak Perfected-based new version. New design of Thousand Wings, different from old one.

PvP Map Pack (Out in May)

Eventide Labs (Europa) – Long-forgotten research outpost. Eramis has chosen it as a refueling station for her ketch. Fallen themed, embedded Servitor. Full of ice tunnels.

Cirrus Plaza (Neomuna) – Shopping/entertainment sector for the exos on Neomuna. “PvP diehards” really like the “readable” map. Based around a large central atrium.

Essence (Pyramid Ship) – Ship being terraformed by the Traveler. Tough map to build, as it’s a noisy visual palate to make a map around. Had hard feedback from testers initially and had to do a lot of work on it. Really had to smooth it down. Collection of mysterious artifacts in one portion (purely visual).

There will be a purely new map playlist when they launch.
