Taylor Sheridan, Jerry Jones rub elbows just before ‘Yellowstone’ CBS debut

The stars conveniently aligned for Taylor Sheridan, Yellowstone and the Dallas Cowboys.

In the second quarter of Sunday’s Cowboys game on CBS, the cameras found Sheridan, wearing a cowboy hat, sitting in Jones’ suite at AT&T Stadium in Arlington and listening to Jones as the Cowboys were ahead 10-0 and driving on the New York Jets.

Seconds later, the lower third of the screen displayed a promo for Yellowstone, Sheridan’s showcase production. CBS play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz made it complete by reading the promo to viewers.

It all added up — CBS, Sheridan, Yellowstone. It was the broadcast television debut for the Western drama that has run up big numbers on the Paramount Network, which shares the same owner as CBS.

According to Variety, the network has acquired programs and unscripted shows to cope with the loss of original programs from the Hollywood actors’ strike. Yellowstone, which is being shown with edits for language, airs on Sunday nights after CBS’s NFL coverage.

The Cowboys went on to defeat the Jets 30-10.

Sheridan is a friend of the Jones family and was heavily featured in the Cowboys schedule release video in May, a Cowboys spokesman said Monday. When Sheridan got the call for the video, he was an easy sell.

“I’m dropping everything,” Sheridan told Charlotte Jones, his friend of close to 20 years. “I’ll be right up.”

In the six-minute video, the premise is that Sheridan receives Cowboys’ schedule and Jones receives the script for season five of Yellowstone. They look over the documents and decide to help each other out.

It leads to casting-call appearances by CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott, Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs and past Cowboys Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin.
