NEW DELHI: Taking stunning catches in slip cordon is nothing new for Australian skipper Steve Smith but his ‘superman’ effort during the second ODI against India made commentator Sanjay Manjrekar in awe of him as he ‘called it the catch of the century’.
The incident took place in the 10th over of the Indian innings when Hardik Pandya played a Sean Abbott delivery away from the body. The ball got the outside edge and Smith, who was fielding at first slip, came up with an extraordinary effort and dived to his right to pocket an absolute stunner with one hand.

After being put into bat, India suffered early blow in the first over with opener Shubman Gill walking back to the pavilion for a duck. Pacer Mitchell Starc triggered the collapse to leave the hosts reeling at 49 for 5 in 9.2 overs.
India never recovered as they lost wickets at regular intervals before being bundled out for a paltry 117 in 26 overs.
Starc’s ninth five-wicket haul in ODIs along with fine display from Sean Abbott (3/23) and Nathan Ellis (2/13) gave Indian batters no chance to settle down with the ball seaming and swinging prodigiously.
Virat Kohli (31) and Axar Patel (29 not out) were the only batters to cross the 20-run mark.
