Deebo Samuel was the only player mentioned when San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided injury updates during his post-game press conference following a 24-21 playoff win over the Green Bay Packers. That’s a significant name, though. Samuel is one of the offense’s most dynamic players, and his potential absence in the upcoming NFC Championship Game raises concerns.
Samuel left the game during the 49ers’ first offensive drive and was initially evaluated for a head injury. Shanahan noted that Samuel was cleared of that potential injury.
Despite being briefly cleared to re-enter the game, Samuel experienced discomfort and had to leave again. He headed to the locker room for evaluation of a shoulder injury, ultimately being ruled out for the remainder of the game.
When asked about his initial impression regarding the severity of Samuel’s injury, Shanahan stated, “I don’t know yet. I mean, he tried to come back, couldn’t do it. I know he did something similar versus Cleveland, so we’ll see tomorrow.”
Shanahan is referencing Samuel’s hairline fracture in his shoulder, an injury that sidelined him for most of that Week 6 game against the Browns, plus two more contests. This comparison raises concerns as the 49ers are set to host the Detroit Lions or Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC title game in a week.
Although, ESPN’s Adam Schefter did provide a positive update.
49ers WR Deebo Samuel, who left Saturday night’s game with a shoulder injury, told some members of the organization that he was “OK”, per sources.

The 49ers offense struggled without Samuel on the field, but they managed to secure a victory, keeping their postseason hopes alive.
When asked about the impact of Samuel’s absence on the team, Shanahan acknowledged, “It changes a lot of stuff, especially when you have wristbands and things like that. You just got to switch some guys around, which is always a challenge for those guys. It happened during the Cleveland game, and we didn’t handle it that well. I thought we handled it better today than we did then, but it is a huge challenge.”
Shanahan added, “Deebo is obviously one of our better players, but he also is a unique guy that goes to some certain spots, so you’ve got to be adjusting that all game.”

49ers vs. Packers Injury Updates: Deebo Samuel ruled out with shoulder injury
The San Francisco 49ers are hosting the Green Bay Packers in a Divisional Playoff contest at Levi’s Stadium.
The 49ers entered the game without defensive end Clelin Ferrell, who was placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury, ending his season. Aside from that, the team entered the playoff game in relatively good health.
Below are the 49ers-related in-game injury updates.
WR Deebo Samuel (head, questionable-returned)
Deebo Samuel remained down on the field after a nine-yard catch and run on the 49ers’ opening drive and was tackled by Packers linebacker Quay Walker. Deebo Samuel recalls moment Trent Williams’ greatness stood out, talks 49ers’ mentality
Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams share a unique pre-game ritual, leading the San Francisco 49ers onto the field with Samuel’s choice of music. Despite the age and experience gap, Samuel, a five-year veteran, and Williams, a league presence since 2010, share great mutual respect.
Williams joined the 49ers a year after Samuel was drafted. The star receiver recalls a pivotal moment when he recognized the veteran offensive lineman was a next-level player capable of teaching him how to approach the game with the right mindset.
Samuel quickly learned that self-evaluation was just as crucial as evaluating your opponent. During a recent appearance on “The NFL Report” podcast with Steve Wyche and James Palmer, the 49ers wideout was asked when he realized Williams was on a
49ers’ Jauan Jennings takes shot at Eagles’ receiver corps
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings clearly doesn’t think much of the Philadelphia Eagles’ wide receiver corps, save a couple of their star players. The Eagles, last season’s NFC champions, are set to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. In last season’s NFC Championship Game, the 49ers and Eagles faced off, with the latter securing a decisive victory.
In this season’s regular-season rematch, the 49ers, equipped with a healthy Brock Purdy, dominated the NFC foe with a convincing 42-19 victory.
On Sunday, Jennings shared a photo on Instagram Stories featuring Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receiver Quez Watkins, along with a caption that read,
Steve Young reveals 49ers’ potential weakness but predicts playoff success
The San Francisco 49ers look like a powerhouse after finishing the regular season with the NFC’s best record, earning home-field advantage in the playoffs. The Super Bowl runs through Levi’s Stadium, ensuring the 49ers the easiest path to a sixth championship.
In a recent discussion with Dan Patrick, Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young admitted that he doesn’t see an NFC defense that can challenge the 49ers.
“You saw them get beat by the Ravens and a bully defense,” Young remarked. “The Cleveland Browns did that. And you also saw them get beat by the Bengals with Joe Burrow just throwing it all over the field. Who’s got that bully defense in the NFC today? I know they’re going to probably see the Lions and the Packers [in the playoffs]. I don’t know that either,
