Everyone needs a second video-console controller. That’s just a fact of life, whether you’re anticipating the notoriously short battery life of PlayStation 5 controllers or because you want to play co-op in Baldur’s Gate 3. The problem is that PS5 controllers are pricey — normally around $75. The solution to that problem? Right now you can grab one on sale for as low as $49 for Black Friday. Game on!
Available in Cosmic Red, Galactic Purple, Nova Pink, Midnight Black and beyond, this controller is one of the most comfortable and intuitive ways to game.
Why is this a good Black Friday deal?
Not to put too fine a point on it, but: The biggest reason to snag one of these is that this is the lowest price they’ve ever been across a variety of colors, including Starlight Blue and Nova Pink.
Why do I need this?
The next biggest reason to buy? The tech. As a gamer, I love the feel of these DualSense controllers; as a tech nerd, they fascinate me. The haptic feedback makes the games feel more real and interactive, and the adaptive triggers are a wild experience. After playing with one of these, other controllers just feel like they’re missing something.
A build-in microphone and headset jack makes it easy to stay connected with friends while you play, while the small button above the jack lets you mute yourself quickly.
And oh yeah: You can also use this controller on the PC. Officially, it’s only compatible with PlayStation 5 and PC, but there are plenty of unofficial adapters out there that work to varying degrees of success if you want to try using it for something else.
What reviewers say
There are over 83,000 perfect ratings, and that should tell you something … because gamers never give perfect scores. “I purchased this controller because a friend was coming over, and I then had only one controller. The controller itself is no different than the one you receive from the console purchase. Meaning, that it’s a good controller, even a bit better than the PS4 DualShock controller. Seriously, the DualSense controller puts the DualShock to shame. I recommend!” one gamer wrote.
“This controller is the best controller I’ve ever used in my entire life. It feels so smooth and is easy to get used to. Honestly, I would give the controller a 10/10 for how it came and how it is easily good and easy to use,” another player said.
Unfortunately, these controllers don’t help you get better at games. “Good controller. I still suck, though,” one person quipped.
The only real lament players had related to the battery life. “One small downside is that the battery life could be a bit better. Depending on the intensity of your gaming sessions, you may need to recharge the controller fairly frequently. But with the included USB-C cable, charging is quick and easy, so it’s not a huge issue.”
Quickly mute yourself during intense firefights with the handy, easy-to-access mic button.
