Aggie baseball’s recent success has been a long time coming

OMAHA, Nebraska (KBTX) – Texas A&M baseball will play for a national championship for the first time in program history.

The national No. 3 seed Aggies will take on the No. 1 seed Tennessee in an all-SEC affair. Game one of the best-of-three championship series is set for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Game two is on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Texas A&M has had quite the run this postseason. The Aggies are 8-0 so far in the NCAA Tournament. They’re the first team to enter the championship series undefeated since Vanderbilt in 2015. Head coach Jim Schlossnagle said it’s special to be making history at A&M in his third year in the program, but he knows the Maroon and White have been building towards this for a long time.

“For the guys like Targac and Brad Rudis and Prager and guys that were a part of our very first team, and a recruiting class with Grahovac and LaViolette, guys that were committed to other schools,” Schlossnagle explained on the guys that were here three years ago. “Jace committed to LSU. They had a lot of options and they believed in a vision that we were trying to flip things around at A&M. Coach Childress is to be credited for this too. We’re building on his program and Mark Johnson as well. Just trying to reestablish Texas A&M as a baseball power that it should be,” Schlossnagle added.

Schlossnagle led the Aggies to their first College World Series semifinal appearance in 2022 during his first year at A&M. Now the Aggies have made the finals for the first time and are looking to capture a national title.
