CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – In the wake of strong storms Wednesday afternoon and evening, and more rain early Thursday morning, several Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools are closed Thursday due to power outages.
District officials said students will not have remote learning days, and there will be no ASEP, extracurricular activities or sports on Thursday.
The district said any national or state testing that students were scheduled to take will be rescheduled, and teachers will have a remote workday.

- Albemarle Road Elementary
- Briarwood Academy
- Cochrane Collegiate
- Devonshire Elementary
- Garinger High
- Harding University High
- Hidden Valley Elementary
- Independence High
- Lincoln Heights Montessori
- Merry Oaks International Academy
- Montclaire Elementary
- Oaklawn Language Academy
- Paw Creek Elementary
- Phillip O. Berry Academy
- Rocky River High
- Steele Creek Elementary
- Thomasboro Academy
- Villa Heights Elementary
- Westerly Hills Elementary
- Wilson STEM Academy
All public schools in Gaston and Cleveland counties are also closed Thursday, in addition to two schools in Lincoln County. A full list of closures from across the area can be found here.

*Editor’s note: CMS previously said Sharon Elementary would not have school on Thursday; however the district later said power has been restored and school is back on.
