D.C.-area forecast: Moderating temperature trend toward warmth starts today

A somewhat subjective rating of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

8/10: Not quite warm enough for a Nice Day Stamp, but the all-day sunshine and under-control winds make it a splendid end to the workweek.

  • Today: Blue skies. A few breezes. Highs: 55-62.
  • Tonight: Slowly increasing clouds. Lows: 30s.
  • Tomorrow: Mix of sun and clouds. Highs: Near 60 to mid-60s.
  • Sunday: Partly sunny. Slight breeze. Highs: Mid-60s.

As our warming trend begins, it’s hard to look beyond today’s beautiful sunshine and slowly rising temperatures. Clouds, at times, are the main trade for milder, average and above average November temperatures coming our way. Meaningful rain chances don’t enter the picture, and barely, until next workweek.

Today (Friday): Getting nicer (and milder) with sunny skies and high temperatures in the mid-50s to low 60s. It’s slightly below average but not bad, especially on the sunny side of the street. A few afternoon southerly breezes could gust around 15 mph. Not a big deal to most. Confidence: High

Tonight: Evening skies should stay fairly clear until clouds move in more earnestly after midnight. Be sure to spot Jupiter (it’s at its closest to us for 2023). Light southwesterly breezes nearly calm before dawn. Low temperatures bottom out in the 30s, perhaps around 40 downtown and near larger bodies of water. Confidence: High

Tomorrow (Saturday): More in the way of clouds, but we should still see some filtered sunshine at times. Breezes are light and variable in direction as high temperatures increase a notch toward a near 60 to mid-60s range. Sunshine levels have a slight question mark, but we’ll keep you posted. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow night: Clouds are thicker, tightening our regional range of low temperatures. There may be a brief passing shower, but the kind that barely wets the sidewalk. We should bottom out near 40 degrees to mid-40s. Set the clocks back an hour before bed, if you have any that need help. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday: Clouds try to at least partially clear out during the early morning, assisting in our adjustment to the hour-earlier sunrise. High temperatures try mainly for the mid-60s, attempting to notch a degree or two warmer than Saturday. Midday and afternoon northwesterly breezes could gust near 15 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday night: Partly to mostly clear with less-chilly low temperatures likely in the upper 30s to mid-40s. Any breezes should stay tame and perhaps calm fully by dawn. Confidence: Medium-High

A few more clouds Monday bring us only very limited shower chances by Tuesday. West-southwest breezes may build a bit as a storm system moves through the Great Lakes region to our northwest. High temperatures may mainly range from the upper 60s to low 70s, warmest Tuesday. Confidence: Medium
