Elden Ring Streamer Beats DLC Bosses With Her Mind

Perrikaryal (or Perri) is already known and celebrated for streaming games like Elden Ring and Halo using a hands-free “mind control” setup, involving motion sensors to track her head and eye movements, as well as an electroencephalogram (EEG) device to record her brain’s electrical activity to use for inputs. Now, she’s moved on to the notoriously difficult Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and she’s already beaten some of the expansion’s toughest early bosses.

The Mind Control DLC playthrough is ongoing on Perri’s Twitch channel, and while she’s experiencing the same difficulties taking down enemies as pretty much every other Erdtree player, she’s still beating bosses all with the power of her mind. You can check out the VODs on her channel, and one of the crowning achievements of her playthrough so far has been defeating Renalla, the second big boss of the expansion. Perri narrowly strikes the killing blow with only a sliver of health left, and the relief and triumph are palpable. You can check out the final moments of the fight right here:

In an interview with Kotaku last year, Perri explained that the tech she uses is not quite as pristine as high-end, off-the-market tech companies like Neurable offer, but that her setup is more than enough to handle her streams. She described the code involved as “very, very janky,” and says it “never works the first time.” This is why she often troubleshoots and calibrates on the stream, as you can see during her Erdtree broadcasts. And though she is clearly astonishingly talented with the brain-scanning tech, Perri told Kotaku that playing with a regular controller is a “bit of a relief.”

Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has given even the most skilled veterans some trouble, so if you’re looking for some general tips to help you get the most out of the expansion, check out our beginner’s tips. And perhaps leave the psychic powers to the pros.
