Everything ‘Destiny 2’ Is Timegating In Its Echoes Episode, That We Know About

Destiny 2’s new Episodes have an…interesting structure. There are three Acts in roughly six weeks blocks, ending seasonal story content after three weeks, then picking it up again three weeks later.

It’s more content than a season, though longer than a season, but it comes with new forms of timegating we haven’t really seen before. I thought I’d make a list of all the major things from Echoes we have to wait for, and when:

Dawn Weapons – There are two more, so presumably we’re only getting one in each Act:

  • Perfect Paradox (Kinetic Shotgun)
  • Martyr’s Retribution (Solar Wave Frame Grenade Launcher)

Echoes Weapons – Now there are four more, so two per Act. This brings the total up to ten, which is indeed more than we get for seasonal weapons normally, though we have to wait for the rest.

  • Corrasion (Arc Pulse Rife)
  • Chronophage (Void Trace Rifle)
  • Speleologist (Solar Machine Gun)
  • Aberrant Action (Solar Rocket Sidearm)

Unknown Exotic (Quest later) – We know there is some sort of exotic quest coming later in the season. Dual Destiny was a Final Shape activity, not Echoes.

100 Season Pass Levels – The season pass is now 200 levels, with 50 more levels added per Act, but it’s very, very hard to go past 100 right now to claim rewards later, as XP gain is heavily nerfed once you hit 100. The most valuable items in the past are:

  • Red Death Catalyst (Season Pass 150)
  • All-Class Helmet Ornament (Season Pass 200)
  • Some mystery squares.

10 New Artifact Mods – I believe it’s confirmed that we are getting a new row of Artifact Mods per season. Given how strong later-column mods can be, this may prove to really change build possibilities around.

New “Activities” – This isn’t just new story quests, which it also says and we know are coming, but new Activities in general, which makes me think that at maximum, we may get a second major activity to join Breach Executable. At worst, it may be another timed map for Enigma Protocol. The latter is my guess, but I hope it’s something significant. Right now, Breach Executable is one map with three boss rooms, and Enigma is just one map. Seems like there’s definitely room for more given the scope of past seasonal activities.

There’s more probably, but I believe that’s all the major stuff. I guess the question is now, would you rather have all this up front with a lot more dead time at the end of the season, or are you okay with it being spread out like this? Let me know on Twitter.
