SINGAPORE — Giant will upsize its senior citizens discount from three to four per cent from 31 October 2023, the food retailer announced on Thursday (26 October).

The company will also refresh the list of products under its ‘Lower Prices That Last’ campaign ahead of the expected Goods and Services Tax (GST) hike in 2024, starting 26 October 2023.

The GST is expected to increase a further one per cent from the current eight per cent to nine per cent come 1 January 2024. Giant said that the enhanced Senior Citizen Discount underscores its dedication to ensuring that Singapore’s senior citizens continue to have access to affordable essentials.

The Senior Citizen Discount discount of four per cent is applicable every Tuesday and is available to all Singaporeans and PRs aged 60 years old and above. It encompasses a wide range of items such as fresh produce, grocery items, personal care products, and household necessities.

“At Giant, we understand the increasing pressure faced by senior citizens in light of the rising cost of living. Therefore, we are excited to provide an even more substantial discount to make sure our elderly customers can continue to purchase their favourite products and maintain their quality of life,” said Lee Yik Hun, Marketing Director for Food and Own Brand, Southeast Asia, DFI Retail Group.

More savings

Meanwhile, yuu Rewards Club members will be glad to know that from 26 October 2023, Giant’s Lower Prices Than Last campaign will provide more savings on fresh and high-quality essentials every day of the week.

Eggs brand Dasoon will take part for the first time in the campaign that also features other brands such as MYOJO Instant Noodles, Prima Plain Flour, Head & Shoulders Shampoo, and Giant Vegetable Oil 5L.

Lee said that prices of eggs can be volatile due to a wide range of supply chain factors, so hopefully Giant can provide “peace-of-mind and stability for Singaporeans that rely on eggs for important nutrients in their daily diet.”

The yuu Rewards Club is free for all to join and members can earn points for every dollar spent. Accumulated points can be redeemed for rewards at over 1,000 places including Giant, Cold Storage, CS Fresh, Guardian, and 7-Eleven.
