The SmackDown side of the bracket got its start in the King of the Ring tournament on Friday Night SmackDown this week with a trio of intriguing match-ups, for varying reasons.
Up first, Baron Corbin got his first match back on the main roster and immediately lost to fellow recent NXT call up Carmelo Hayes. To be fair, Corbin was made to look pretty damn good here but Hayes stole one with a roll up. Hey, it gets the job done!
Later on, The Bloodline did what The Bloodline do, overwhelming whoever is in front of them. Now, they have numbers once more, and in this case Tama Tonga used assists from Tanga Loa and Solo Sikoa to defeat Angelo Dawkins.
Finally, in the night’s main event, Randy Orton and AJ Styles came together to figure out which of the top stars would move forward. They both had their moments but in the end it was Orton getting to the ropes after a Phenomenal Forearm that made the difference. Styles could not do the same after an RKO, and that was it for him.
The tournament continues on Raw next week and concludes at the upcoming King & Queen of the Ring premium live event scheduled for May 25 in Saudi Arabia.
