In recognition of World Mental Health Day, this email was sent to Hershey Entertainment & Resorts team members.
Since 1992, World Mental Health Day has been commemorated on October 10 to raise awareness and drive positive change. The World Foundation of Mental Health has advocated for mental health awareness, education and healthcare for 75 years. The organization has declared the 2023 theme to be ‘mental health is a universal human right.’
Starting a conversation about mental health – whether you need help or have a friend or family member in need – can be the hardest part of the journey. If you are struggling, experts recommend you build a support system, find a peer group, actively participate in your treatment and develop a recovery plan.
If you believe someone is in crisis, communicate in a straightforward manner and ask questions such as, “I am someone who cares and wants to listen. What do you want me to know about how you are feeling…” or “I’ve been worried about you. Can we talk about what you are experiencing? If not, who are you comfortable talking to?” Mental health should not carry a stigma. You are encouraged to talk with a colleague, friend, or family member if you need assistance.
