Josip Stanišić is ready to bring the Meisterschale back to Bayern Munich

The right-back position has been a hot topic at Bayern Munich all season. Thomas Tuchel spent a lot of time tinkering with multiple players, eventually settling on Joshua Kimmich after Tuchel announced his resignation. It also helped that Aleksandar Pavlović and Konrad Laimer both emerged as reliable midfielders.

According to Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Stanišić loved his time in Leverkusen but is planning to return to the Säbener Strasse this summer to compete for the starting job.

The club will head into the summer transfer window with a few different options and Bayern hold strong cards in most of the potential scenarios.

  • Josip Stanišić’s loan with Bayer Leverkusen will terminate after the DFB-Pokal Cup final on Saturday, May 25th. Leverkusen are heavy favorites to win three titles in eight days to complete the Europa treble.
  • Kimmich has one year remaining on his contract, but is shrewdly waiting to make a decision until after the Euros for Bayern’s coaching situation to be resolved. All possibilities are on the table here.
  • Noussair Mazraoui had a brilliant Rückrunde, often outshining Alphonso Davies at left back.
  • Another wildcard solution is “Mr. Outside Hire”, such as Jerome Frimpong (€50m). If Tuchel is retained, Bayern might make another run at Manchester City’s 34-year old Kyle Walker (€13m).
