Katy Perry’s Seven-Word Retort to FKA Twigs’ Advice Backstage at Vogue Show

Katy Perry shared some observational humor while preparing to grace the runaway at Vogue magazine‘s third annual Vogue World: Paris event.

The event brought more than 500 major stars from around the world to the iconic Place Vendôme to celebrate 100 years of style in France. It saw the likes of singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter and singer-songwriter Ciara grace the catwalk.

Musician FKA Twigs and supermodel Cara Delevingne were coaching Perry before the big event; the former wanted the “Hot and Cold” singer to deliver a different persona to that which people had come to know her for.

FKA Twigs told Perry to make sure it was the “C-word;” this is a common phrase used in many LGBTQ+ communities to show “characteristics such as being confident, sassy or fierce,” according to Christian Ilbury for The Conversation.

“It’s a state of mind – a stance anyone can embody, regardless of gender,” Ilbury wrote.

FKA Twigs said in a video posted to Perry’s Instagram; “just make sure it’s not dead behind the eyes, make sure you look like you’re going somewhere, but like not in a pop star way.”

That’s when Perry interrupted to retort: “I’ve only ever been a pop star?”

The trio laughed as Perry took off in the room to practice her walk. FKA Twigs suggested, “a little more work in the shoulders maybe,” and Delevingne added, “like a tiger.”

The pair were both impressed with Perry’s walk, shouting “very good.”

Fans loved the series of photos and video, sharing their thoughts in the comments section.

“Katy Perry’s ability to pull off so many things is my favorite part,” wrote @ohmadellyn.

Podcaster Marsha Molinari added, “You were born for a model walk off.”

The fan account @kursatperry commented, “what a SERVE.”

Perry turned heads at the glamorous event by wearing a Noir Kei Ninomiya geometric gown that gave a nude illusion.

Perry made the surprised appearance during the section of the show devoted to the style and silhouettes of the 1980s. Models wore Saint Laurent, Junya Watanabe, Comme des Garçons and other labels.

As they walked the gigantic catwalk, the models were followed by professional judokas and karatekas [practitioners of judo and of karate], in a tribute to the martial arts. They were also joined by Nika Taiko, a Paris-based Japanese drum group.

The event celebrated 100 years of French fashion, with sections of the show dedicated to different decades of the country’s couture and designers.

Other key moments that made headlines were supermodels Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid arriving on horseback before posing for photos in black designer outfits.
