Maryland women’s basketball (10-4) had its game on Saturday against Purdue (9-5) postponed due to a leak in the XFINITY Center roof. With heavy rain in the area, water made its way onto the court, forcing the teams to push the matchup back to an undetermined later date.
“Today’s game has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date,” the program announced 45 minutes after the scheduled start time of 4:30 p.m. “All tickets will be refunded or can be exchanged for another game.”
The game was first postponed for 15 minutes while arena staff attempted to remedy the situation. The issues continued despite their efforts, though, and the teams began to exit the court after a lengthy delay. Moments later, the postponement was made official.
“We’re as disappointed as you guys,” Terps head coach Brenda Frese said in an address to the crowd. “We hope that you’ll come back and support this team.”

Maryland athletic director Damon Evans said on Big Ten Network that he is looking into the possibility of playing next week since there is an opening in the schedule. The only sporting event scheduled to occupy the main court at XFINITY Center next week is a gymnastics meet on Friday, Jan. 12.
The Terps’ next scheduled game is at Michigan State on Tuesday, Jan. 9.
