Another day of hot, humid conditions in New Jersey could lead to intense thunderstorms this afternoon and evening with wind gusts topping 55 mph, large hail and heavy downpours, forecasters say.
The National Weather Service also says a few isolated tornadoes are also possible along with localized flash flooding from the heavy rain. The thunderstorms could pop up after temperatures climb into the low to mid-90s, with a heat index of around 100 degrees by mid-afternoon.
Storms could develop anytime between 4 p.m. and midnight, with the entire state at a slight risk for scattered severe storms (level 2 on a risk scale of 1 to 5).
- ALSO: Jersey Shore ocean temps have been shockingly cold, despite heat wave
- MORE: Rip current alert for Jersey Shore beaches today through 8 p.m.
Any storms would likely be short-lived but intense, the National Weather Service says.
