Oilers at Panthers Stanley Cup Final Game 5 odds, expert picks: Oilers attempt series comeback

The Florida Panthers get another crack at winning their first-ever Stanley Cup with Game 5 in their home rink Tuesday night. If the Panthers finish the job, the Cup will remain in Florida for the third time in five seasons (Tampa Bay won in 2020 and 2021).

Oilers fans, meanwhile, are keeping the faith as they seek to come back from a 3-0 series deficit. You’ve probably seen it by now, but the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs are the only team to do a reverse sweep in the Stanley Cup Final. The Oilers won 16 consecutive games earlier this season, so they know how to put a streak together. The Stanley Cup playoffs, of course, are very different.

• Connor McDavid’s four-point game in Game 4 led to him making history, setting the record for most assists in a Stanley Cup playoff run (32 assists). McDavid is now tied for fifth all-time for most points recorded in a single Stanley Cup playoff campaign. Wayne Gretzky, who previously held the assist record, holds the points record at 47. If you’re curious, Reggie Leach has the goals record at 19. Zach Hyman has 14 goals this spring.
• Aleksander Barkov leads all Panthers in points (21) and could emerge as playoff MVP if Florida wins. However, he has just one playoff goal in his last seven games. Meanwhile, Matthew Tkachuk’s goalless streak has been extended to nine games with four assists in that time.
• Sergei Bobrovsky allowed five goals on 16 shots in Game 4, plunging his save percentage for the playoffs to .909 and .912 for the Stanley Cup Final. So much for that all-time best save percentage rate in the championship series. It was also the third time this postseason that Officer Bob allowed five goals or more in net during a game.
• It remains to be seen if we’ll see Evander Kane again in this series. But according to Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch, there’s a ‘good’ chance he could return. If he does return, he’ll need to improve on his one assist in his last nine Stanley Cup playoff games.
