Around 2:45 p.m., multiple fire crews and hazmat teams from Phoenix, Glendale and Daisy Mountain responded to the TSMC plant that’s under construction along 43rd Avenue just north of the Loop 303.

TSMC officials said the victim was a garbage truck driver and was taken to the hospital.

No TSMC employees or construction workers were hurt.

The facilities weren’t damaged, TSMC said.

No other information was available.

TSMC, short for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited, is the world’s largest contract chipmaker. The company first announced plans for a semiconductor manufacturing facility in Phoenix in May 2020 and began construction in July 2022.

Production is expected to start in 2025.

In addition to its existing location, TSMC has also announced plans to expand in the Valley with two more manufacturing facilities.
