Rory McIlroy had no interest in sticking around after he let a chance to win the US Open slip through his fingers.
The famed golfer was quick to leave Pinehurst Resort and Country Club after Bryson DeChambeau won the tournament, throwing his clubs into his tournament-sponsored vehicle and driving out of the parking lot without speaking with reporters.
Video from Pinehurst showed McIlroy walking out of the clubhouse with several people following close behind him.
He made a beeline right for his car and put his clubs and other bags into the vehicle before getting in himself.
Other video shows McIlroy in the driver’s seat backing up and then appearing to spin his wheels as he starts driving forward.
He then drives down the road and out of view of the camera.
The Raleigh News & Observer reported that McIlroy left the course six minutes after DeChambeau made the winning putt.
Sunday proved to be a disappointing day as McIlroy flubbed two putts that could have pushed him to his first major title victory in 10 years and his first US Open win since 2011.
Instead, he watched as DeChambeau won his second career US Open by shooting for par on the 18th hole.
The NBC broadcast captured McIlroy’s reaction as he watched the American sink the winning putt, as he sighed, stood in the middle of the room and then walked out followed by his caddie.
It has been a whirlwind few weeks for McIlroy, who has had his personal life making headlines from news breaking in May about his divorce to rumors that he was romantically involved with a golf reporter.
And last week it came out that McIlroy and his wife, Erica Stoll, had called off their divorce, with the golfer filing a notice of voluntary dismissal in the case.
