Train service in and out of New York Penn Station suspended during evening rush

New Jersey Transit service in and out of Penn Station was temporarily suspended during the Monday evening rush hour – the fourth time in less than a week that commuters were left with delays and cancellations.

NJ Transit cited “Amtrak overhead wires issues in one of the Hudson River tunnels” for another travel headache at the massive Midtown Manhattan transit hub before service resumed around 7:30 p.m., the agency said in a series of tweets.

Still, commuters would have to deal with delays of up to 60 minutes, according to the agency.

Trains initially were being diverted to Hoboken during the service outage.

Train service at Penn was slowed last Tuesday because of a disabled train, while equipment issues left commuters stranded on Thursday and again Friday as temperatures soared.

Amtrak and NJ Transit have long pointed the finger at each other — and officials have blamed the delays and service suspensions on crumbling equipment and aging wiring belonging to both agencies.
