Vermont pizza spot named one of best in US by New York Times. How to go

Vermont may not be known for its pizza, but this acclaimed restaurant in making up for that.

The New York Times released a list of the 22 best places to get pizza in the U.S. on Wednesday. Tillerman, a restaurant and inn in Bristol, a small town about 45 minutes outside of Burlington, was named one of the best.

The pizza spots rise to acclaim was quick. Tillerman opened in 2022, replacing the Inn at Baldwin Creek and Mary’s Restaurant after the previous owners retired.

While in a new era, restaurant is located in a 18th-century farmhouse.

What the New York Times like about Tillerman

Brett Anderson, who wrote the section on Tillerman in the article, commend the owners, Jason Kirmse and Kate Baron, Tillerman’s pastry chef, Kelsey Martin, and the sous-chef, Taylor Adams in the article.

“Rustic comforts — raging fires in the winter, live music night by the barn in summer — remain central to the appeal here,” Anderson said.

Anderson would also say that the restaurant’s selections included seasonal crisped-edged pizzas.

What Tillerman Restaurant said

The people at Tillerman, which is owned by Jason Kirmse and Kate Baron, posted on Instagram about their ranking in the Times article, saying how they were honored to be featured.

“It is so much fun to read about the evolution of something as ubiquitous, enduring and loved as pizza,” the post said.

In the post, there was also praise given to the pizza scene in Vermont as well as an explanation about how each aspect of the Tillerman experience enriches the food they serve.

” A lot of thought and care goes in to what we offer, much of it behind the scenes, people hard at work – it always comes back to our team who make it all possible,” it said.

Tillerman is located on 1868 N 116 Rd, Bristol, VT 05443. It is closed from Saturday to Tuesday and is open the rest of the week. Their operating hours are from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
