The Dallas Mavericks just took a swing at acquiring the missing piece they need for a championship. They are poised to acquire Klay Thompson from Golden State.
One of the greatest shooters in NBA history, Thompson evolved into a sixth-man role last season, his 13th with Golden State. That tenure was the second-longest by any NBA player with the same team, next to his teammate Steph Curry.
Dallas, coming off its run to the NBA Finals, where it lost to Boston, is sending Josh Green to Charlotte as part of the multi-team deal, which, as of Monday afternoon, was not completed.

Details aren’t complete, but Dallas is sending Josh Green to Charlotte, which is sending two second-round picks to the Mavericks. One of those picks could eventually end up with Golden State.
Green averaged 11.4 minutes per game for Dallas last season when he scored 2.6 points per game.

That was the issue, as Thompson was set to be an unrestricted free agent. Per an ESPN report, he is set to sign for three years for $50 million with a player option. He had four-year offers for more money, but wanted the best chance to play for a title and also doesn’t have to pay state income tax in Texas.
