ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – A mass shooting wounded at least nine people, including two children, at a splash pad in Oakland County on Saturday.

When did the shooting happen?
Police said the shooting happened around 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 15.
Where did the shooting happen?
The shooting happened at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad at 1585 E. Auburn Road in Rochester Hills.
What happened?
Police said a man pulled up to the splash pad in a vehicle, pulled out a handgun and started shooting.
The splash pad was “fairly crowded,” police said.
Police described the incident as “random” in nature.
Police recovered a 9mm handgun at the scene. The gunman fired at least 28 times and reloaded multiple times, police said. Police believe the gunman was firing with two handguns.
Some victims were wounded trying to flee the scene.
The gunman fled the scene and was eventually located at a mobile home park in Shelby Township where he killed himself hours after the shooting.
Who are the victims?
Police are aware of at least nine victims in the shooting — here’s what we know about them.
An 8-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to his head and is listed in critical condition. A 4-year-old boy was wounded and is listed in stable condition. and a 39-year-old woman was wounded and is listed in critical condition. All three of those victims are in the same family — a mother and her two kids.
Six other adults were injured, all listed in stable condition, ages ranging from 30 to 78, including a married couple.
Victims were transported to four area hospitals for treatment.
Who is the gunman?
The gunman was a 42-year-old white male, according to Bouchard. Police believe he lived with his mother, but she was not home at the time. Bouchard noted that he may have been going through some “mental health challenges.”
Police discovered a apparent rifle in the home where he was found dead.
Bouchard said they have had no previous contact with the gunman, and no record of criminal history.

What happens next?
The investigation into why this man decided to open fire on random strangers is ongoing. Police will try and establish a motive.
There was also a working camera pointed at the splash pad at the time of the shooting, which police will likely be reviewing for days to come.

Mental health services from Oakland Community Health Network will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Rochester Hills Department of Public Services building, 511 E. Auburn Road, for victims, their families, and individuals who were at Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills at the time of the shooting Saturday evening. No appointment is necessary.
