A WWE championship rule change was utilized for the first time on tonight’s NXT as the Heritage Cup title was defended.
With the latest winner of the cup having been Charlie Dempsey, it was recently revealed by the No Quarter Catch Crew would be sharing title defense duties.
When a challenger has a match for the Heritage Cup, the match will be under their ‘Catch Clause’ which means any member of the faction could be defending on behalf of the Crew, not just Dempsey even though he’s the one that won it.
Earlier on tonight’s show, Charlie Dempsey and Myles Borne represented the Crew when they took on Nathan Frazer and Axiom in the tournament to get into the Stand & Deliver tag title match.
The pair were not successful as Frazer and Axiom moved on in their quest to take on the Wolf Dogs (Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker) at NXT Stand & Deliver.
When it came time for Riley Osborne of Chase U to get the opportunity at the Heritage Cup, it would end up being Drew Gulak to defend the Cup on behalf of the No Quarter Catch Crew.
In the end, the Crew retained the title with Gulak picking up the 2-1 victory in the Heritage Cup match after some shenanigans between Jacy Jayne and Thea Hail at ringside caused a distraction for Osborne and Jazmyn Nyx interfered.
