Six people, including four kids, were gunned down in a mass shooting inside a Canadian home overnight, cops said Thursday.
Police made the grim discovery inside a townhouse in Ottawa’s Barrhaven neighborhood after a flurry of 911 calls shortly before 11 p.m., CBC News reported.
One person who was found alive inside the home was rushed to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A man was arrested at the scene, cops added.
Ottawa police chief Eric Stubbs described the horror as a “mass shooting.”
He added that police didn’t believe it was a domestic related incident.
Police haven’t yet confirmed if there was any relationship between the victims and the suspect.
“Obviously, it’s a horrific scene,” Stubbs said. “I’m sure the impact on the community is great.”
The identities of the slain children and adults, nor the suspect have been made public.
Ottawa’s mayor Mark Sutcliffe on Thursday called the mass shooting “one of the most shocking incidents of violence in our city’s history.”
“We are proud to live in a safe community but this news is distressing to all Ottawa residents,” he tweeted.
“Thank you to our emergency responders who are investigating and supporting those who are affected by this terrible event.”
He added that police didn’t believe it was a domestic-related incident.
Neither the identities of the victims nor the suspect have been made public.
