Aris is in line for a mighty test as they strive to build off last week’s impressive result against Panathinaikos by earning another victory over a top side, this time against AEK in their own backyard.
The Thessaloniki club travels to face Enosi at “Agia Sophia” Stadium on Tuesday morning (AEDT) in the Greek Super League’s 13th round, the headline match in what is the halfway point for the competition’s regular season.
AEK will be eager to down their opponents as they seek to enter the second phase of the regular season right at the top of the ladder alongside their title rivals.
Aris will hope they can capitalise on a fatigued Enosi side due to playing in Europe midweek as they aim to build on their impressive form of late (four wins from their last five games) and shore up their place in the top six.
PAOK is also preparing for a visit from tough opposition, with Lamia going on the road to try get a result inside “Toumba” Stadium.
The “black-whites” have as much motivation to win as any other team, given they are firmly in the hunt for the premiership (only two points off of first), and so will be keen to ease past a strong Fthiotida outfit that is currently in sixth.
Panathinaikos is hoping to get back on track following their derby loss to Aris with a victory over OFI at “Leoforos” ground on Monday morning.
The “Trifylli” sacrificed three points from their four-point lead, meaning they no longer have any wiggle room at the top of the table and so must be perfect if and until the other title challengers drop points.
Olympiacos, the other championship contenders, go away to face Volos in what should be an easy win for the Piraeus giants, the only potential hurdle being fatigue from their European trip to Freiburg midweek.
Atromitos hosts an out-of-form Giannina team that is fighting to end its now 12-match winless streak in all competitions and escape from the relegation zone.
Asteras Tripolis (8th) and Panserraikos (9th) are preparing for a tight contest on Sunday morning, with each club vying to sit on top of the other on the ladder.
Panetolikos plays Kifisia at home in a 14th vs 12th battle, and the Agrinio side will be hoping for a victory to climb out of last place at the expense of their opponents.
