Ayo Edebiri Said J.Lo’s Entire Career Is a ‘Scam’ Ahead of SNL

  • A clip of actor Ayo Edebiri has surfaced in which she says Jennifer Lopez’s career is a scam.
  • Fans of the actress came to her defense.
  • The pair are set to appear together on “Saturday Night Live” tonight.

The troops are rallying behind their favorite “Irish” actor, “The Bear” star Ayo Edebiri, after a clip of her talking about Jennifer Lopez’s decadeslong singing career resurfaced.

Ahead of Edebiri’s “Saturday Night Live” hosting gig alongside musical guest Lopez, TMZ resurfaced a clip of the “Bottoms” actor on the “Scam Goddess” podcast from 2020 saying Lopez’s career was “one long scam” in a conversation about the “I’m Real” singer’s Super Bowl LIV performance.

Edebiri said that Lopez “thinks” she’s singing in on many of her songs, but “it’s not her” — echoing claims that Lopez uses ghost singers on her tracks.

“I think she thinks that she’s still good even though she’s not singing for most of these songs,” Edebiri tells cohost Laci Mosely, who agreed with the actor.

It’s unclear why TMZ resurfaced the clip, but some X users didn’t take long to come to Edebiri’s defense.

“TMZ cannot defeat Ayo Edebiri or block her bag. That lady is protected by God, the Republic of Ireland, millions of Nigerian WhatsApp accounts, and the Truth itself because where is the lie here,” one viral X post reads.

Edebiri isn’t the first person to say J.Lo can’t sing. The rumor has been swirling around since Lopez’s early days, with fans claiming Lopez uses ghost singers. Other artists like Ashanti and Christina Milian have also said Lopez relied on their vocals when producing her music, further fueling the rumors.

“Desperately trying to make a scandal out of someone saying JLo can’t sing is like trying to make a scandal out of someone saying Gal Gadot can’t act,” one user on X said.

Some came to Lopez’s defense, asking that the Grammy-nominated singer receive more respect.

As to how Lopez will react, the singer has said in previous interviews that she’s been hurt by accusations that she cannot sing but has brushed it off so far.

In a recently released “SNL” promo clip, the pair seemed friendly, with Edebiri telling Lopez, “I love your everything.”

We’ll see if Edebiri’s comments become some lighthearted source material for an SNL opening monologue — or if Jenny from the Block will swing back.

Representatives for Edebiri and Lopez did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
