Residents on several streets in the city of Rochester are being asked to boil their drinking water after a body was discovered in the Highland Park Reservoir.
Rochester police say they were alerted to the body’s presence around 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The RPD scuba team was called in to retrieve what they believed to be a deceased adult, police say.
Police contacted the City of Rochester Water Bureau and were told the reservoir was immediately bypassed as soon as the discovery was made. The drinking water was also tested and no safety issues were found.
Out of caution, the Monroe County Department of Public Health issued a boil water notice for the following streets served by the Highland Park Reservoir:

- Arnett Boulevard to Westfield Street
- Westfield Street to Chili Avenue

Multiple samples will be collected from the water distribution system over the next 16 hours to confirm the water quality has not been impacted.
The reservoir will not be put back into service until it has been drained and cleaned.
The circumstances surrounding how the body ended up in the reservoir are still under investigation.
Due to the boil water notice, all schools and offices in the Rochester City School District will be closed on Wednesday.
R-Centers have also adjusted their hours on Wednesday to accommodate students. Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center at 485 N. Clinton will be open from 8 a.m-7 p.m. and the David F. Gantt R-Center at 700 North Street will be open 10 a.m.-7 p.m. All other city R-Centers are open 12-7 p.m. Children will be provided with bottled water, dinner and a snack.
