Carabao Cup updates as Blues win dramatic penalty shootout

Chelsea booked their passage to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup on penalties after Mykhailo Mudryk’s stoppage-time equaliser rescued a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.

Mudryk slotted home after a mistake from Kieran Trippier just as Eddie Howe’s side looked to have done enough to ease past the hosts, who struggled to create for much of the game.

Earlier, Callum Wilson had given the visitors a first-half lead on the counter-attack. But as the game went to spot-kicks, Trippier again was culpable, firing wide from 12 yards before Matt Ritchie saw the critical kick saved by goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic to see Chelsea through.

Chelsea joy and Newcastle misery come from unlikely sources in Carabao Cup drama

22:46 , Luke Baker

A moment to savour and delight, finally, for Mauricio Pochettino, who will dance long into the west London night. His Chelsea into the Carabao Cup semi-finals and a cruel exit on penalties for a brave Newcastle United. It was so nearly more of the same for the Blues: plenty of promise but ultimately heading for a miserable conclusion to another 90 minutes in this lavish project.

Desperately searching for inspiration, it arrived in unlikely circumstances, with not only another calamitous error from Kieran Trippier, but their much-maligned £88.5m man Mykhailo Mudryk doing the damage. He prodded into the corner in stoppage time and followed it with a calmly-converted penalty in the shootout. Chelsea may just have lift-off under Pochettino on this most thrilling of nights in the Carabao Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino discusses Chelsea’s win

22:45 , Luke Baker

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to Sky Sports: “I think it was a really good game. We suffered when we conceded, it was our mistake. I said to the players to always believe until the end. Sometimes in football you need some luck and it came. Credit to the players because they were fantastic.”

“We were talking before the game that we felt positive after the Sheffield United game. To beat Newcastle, you can see the players on the pitch and it was a good feeling with the fans. It made us really believe, grow and improve. We are doing well, we are recovering players.”

“They are so young. It’s amazing because we always talk about the talent but being all together helps. We are creating a very good bond. It’s about time to know each other. This type of result will help us, but also results like Newcastle away will help us realise what needs to improve.”

On Enzo Fernandez: “He felt sick. He didn’t feel well before the game and then when he started to play, it wasn’t going well. He asked to come out because he wasn’t feeling well. Colwill was more tactics. He was a little bit tired at the end of the first half. Levi is going to be ready for the next game.”

Being in the semi-finals: “A very good start. We are so happy. The fans and the club deserve this sort of feeling. It’s a big motivation. We are waiting for the draw tomorrow.”

Carabao Cup results

22:01 , Luke Baker

There’s already been one penalty shootout in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals tonight and Fulham beat Everton 7-6 after some serious drama.

Both teams had chances to win it in the shootout but eventually Tosin Adarabioyo found the bottom corner to nick it 7-6. So Fulham join Middlesbrough in the semi-finals.

FULL-TIME! Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle

21:58 , Luke Baker

And that’s it! Off to a penalty shootout after Mudryk’s late drama. Ooh, a bit of late-night drama in the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle

21:58 , Luke Baker

90+5 mins: Another two yellow cards, this time for Guimaraes as he clatters into Maatsen and then for Mudryk who reacts badly and gets in the Brazilian’s face.

Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle

21:57 , Luke Baker

90+4 mins: A cynical lunge by Gallagher on Guimaraes earns a yellow card.

Oooh, we’ve just seen a replay and after the equaliser, a Chelsea fan ran on the pitch, celebrated in Dubravka’s face and barged him slightly before running back into the crowd. Absolute idiot

GOAL! Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle (Mudryk 90+2’) ⚽

21:53 , Luke Baker

The equaliser! And it’s a defensive howler! It’s a nothing ball into the box from the right by Gusto, one bounce and Kieran Trippier has time but it’s a weak header to no one, Mykhailo Mudryk nips round him and finishes past Dubravka. Out of nowhere!

A defensive error apiece now and it looks like we’re heading to penalties.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:52 , Luke Baker

90 mins: Penalty appeal! Gallagher skips past a couple of defenders and although he loses it, Livramento stumbles and Gallagher gets it back. He drives into the box from the right and goes down under a challenge by Livramento but the referee is having none of it. Looks like simulation from Gallagher, in truth.

There’ll be 4 minutes of added time!

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:50 , Luke Baker

87 mins: Almost an own goal by Newcastle! Mudryk curls a cross in from the right towards the back post where Livramento gets his head to the ball but directs it across his own goal and mercifully just wide. That could easily have gone in or been tapped in by a Chelsea player but just a corner, which they manage to defend.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:48 , Luke Baker

86 mins: Chelsea win a free-kick in their own half and Callum Wilson plays nuisance as he stands in the way, stopping the quick free-kick. Caicedo pushes him out of the way and Wilson theatrically falls to the floor. Yellow card for Wilson.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:46 , Luke Baker

85 mins: Caicedo slides the ball into Gusto down the right and his cutback is cleared behind for a corner. Badiashile comes up for it as Palmer whips it in but it’s cleared and Mudryk’s second ball in flies out for a goal-kick. Into the final five minutes…

Middlesbrough have booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals as Port Vale are dispatched 3-0. Meanwhile, Everton vs Fulham has gone to penalties after Beto’s 82nd-minute equaliser. Nerves a’ jangling at Goodison Park

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:44 , Luke Baker

83 mins: Gusto hurls another cross into the box but Newcastle pump it clear. The right-back then puts another ball in but Dubravka claims comfortably and a precious few more seconds are wasted.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:42 , Luke Baker

82 mins: Mauricio Pochettino looking increasingly frustrated on the sidelines. Newcastle have weathered some of the storm it looks like but Chelsea will need to come with another wave.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:39 , Luke Baker

78 mins: All hands to the pump for Newcastle now – 11 men behidn the ball stuff. Chelsea working the ball one side to the other, probing for an opening.

A couple more changes for Chelsea as they desperately look for a leveller. Ian Maatsen and Mykhailo Mudryk thrown on as Disasi and the lively Sterling come off. A bit of pace from the fresh legs for the Blues.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:37 , Luke Baker

75 mins: Chelsea break away on the counter with Sterling surging through the middle. Nkunku supporting on the right and Sterling tries to lay it into his path on the edge of the box but overhits the pass slightly and it’s just beyond the Frenchman’s stretch.

Sterling looks baffled but that was a chance for the Blues.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:34 , Luke Baker

72 mins: Nkunku immediately involved as he tries a neat flick on the edge of the area to free Broja. Doesn’t quite come off though.

Sterling gets yellow carded for simulation as he throws himself to the floor looking for a free-kick.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:31 , Luke Baker

69 mins: The moment is here! The Chelsea debut of Christopher Nkunku! The man who scored 58 goals over the past two seasons for RB Leipzig but suffered a knee injury in pre-season after joining Chelsea is not thrown into the fray.

An equaliser wouldn’t be a bad way to introduce himself to Blues supporters… He’s got 20 minutes to find one. On for Nicolas Jackson.

Carabao Cup latest scores

21:29 , Luke Baker

Beto has snatched an 82nd-minute equaliser for Everton at home to Fulham! That’s now 1-1 and currently headed for penalties.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough will be in the hat as they lead Port Vale 3-0 in the dying stages of that quarter-final.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:26 , Luke Baker

65 mins: This is all Chelsea now. Basically attack vs defence. Sterling whips a good cross in that Gallagher attacks but it’s blocked. Newcastle hoof the ball clear but they’re not leaving any players up the pitch. Happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.

Can Chelsea break down the structured defence?

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:23 , Luke Baker

62 mins: Chelsea again get around the Newcastle box but are just crowded out before they can get a shot away. Disasi then gets a bouncing cross in but Dubravka holds it.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:22 , Luke Baker

60 mins: Newcastle are starting to look a bit out on their feet here. Chelsea will fancy nicking an equaliser.

SAVE! Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:18 , Luke Baker

56 mins: Nice stop Martin Dubravka! Jackson rides a challenge and lays the ball into Sterling’s path towards the right of the box. A good shot away low across goal but Dubravka down smartly and pushes the ball away. Keeps it at 1-0.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:17 , Luke Baker

54 mins: The longer this goes, surely the closer we get to Nkunku-time for Chelsea?

Maybe the former RB Leipzig man would have scored this? Good work by Gusto down the left, he pulls it back for Jackson who takes a nice touch and gets a shot off on the turn but drags it just wide.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:14 , Luke Baker

52 mins: Gordon then goes down and I think that’s the end of his game. Chelsea build an attack but eventually Caicedo puts the ball out. He didn’t have to do that there – it wasn’t a head injury and his own teammates (and the crowd) don’t look delighted with his decision. Maybe a bit of guilt for that nasty rake down Gordon’s calf in the early going..

Anyway, Gordon comes off and Matt Ritchie is on. The Magpies will be desperately hoping it’s not a serious issue for the impressive winger.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:11 , Luke Baker

50 mins: Long ball from Petrovic brilliantly finds Broja moving to his right – classy distribution from the Chelsea keeper. Palmer then shoots from out on the left but his shot deflected wide.

The short corner doesn’t work though and Newcastle try to break but Gordon can’t get on to the ball. Gordon looks to be slightly injured and can’t sprint at full pelt – you feel Eddie Howe will take him off soon.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:08 , Luke Baker

46 mins: Chelsea win a free-kick out on the left early in the second half and Gallagher curls it into the box but it’s dealt with initially and the ball back in goes harmlessly out for a goal-kick.

KICK-OFF! Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:07 , Luke Baker

Back underway at Stamford Bridge.

Two defensive changes for Newcastle at the break as Emil Krafth and Sven Botman come off, with Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn on. Chelsea also forced into a change as Levi Colwill is replaced by Malo Gusto. A few niggles out there after that first 45 minutes.

HALF-TIME! Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

21:01 , Luke Baker

Here was the only goal of that first half – Callum Wilson’s neat run and finish but a disaster by Benoit Badiashile.

HALF-TIME! Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:53 , Luke Baker

And that’s half-time. Chelsea have had the better of it but a bad mistake by Benoit Badiashile allowed Callum Wilson to nip in and put Newcastle ahead.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:51 , Luke Baker

45+3 mins: Great chance right on the stroke of half-time as a lovely lofted ball over the top finds Broja on the run but his volley is weak and straight at Dubravka. Not sure if he was trying to lift it over him? Not much conviction in the finish.

Ah, the flag went up anyway for offside but I’m not sure Broja knew that…

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:50 , Luke Baker

45+2 mins: Nice sliding tackle by Krafth on Colwill out wide. Colwill steps on Krafth as it happens – accidental or a bit naughty? Referee deems it accidental and we play on – painful one for Krafth though.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:47 , Luke Baker

45 mins: Nice ball into Jackson’s feet by Sterling and he dances across the edge of the box looking to get a shot on target. Eventually he gets one blocked wide for a corner.

Disasi gets his head on the second ball back in but nods it wide. Three minutes of injury time to end the half.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:46 , Luke Baker

44 mins: Colwill strides forward and Chelsea try to work something between Palmer and Sterling on the edge of the box but Newcastle scramble it away.

Colwill doesn’t look comfortable and keeps stretching. I wonder if he might be subbed at half-time, with maybe Ian Maatsen coming on for him.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:43 , Luke Baker

42 mins: Newcastle’s best spell for a little while as Levi Colwill is forced to lunge to block a Gordon shot and Krafth then gets to the byline and cuts the ball back but it’s dealt with by the defence. Chelsea looked a little stretched for a moment.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:42 , Luke Baker

40 mins: Chelsea have had the better of this game and over 70 per cent possession but one mistake in this first half has been punished by Callum Wilson.

Emil Krafth goes down testing out his knee and Newcastle could really do without more injuries but he appears to be ok to continue.

NO GOAL! Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:40 , Luke Baker

38 mins: Chelsea break and have the ball in the net but it’s rightly disallowed for offside.

It was a nice attack as they surged forward but Broka goes too early and although his dinked finish over Dubravka is nice, the flag goes up to deny him. No VAR to confirm of course this evening but replays show it was offside.

Carabao Cup latest scores

20:39 , Luke Baker

A couple of other quarter-finals this evening in the Carabao Cup, which have reached half-time.

A Michael Keane own goal sees Fulham leading Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park, while League 1 Port Vale’s superb run looks to be ending as they trail Championship Middlesbrough 2-0.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:35 , Luke Baker

33 mins: Appeals for a penalty from Chelsea! Sterling again involved as he gets into the box and goes down under a challenge from Jamaal Lascelles. Nothing doing says the referee and no VAR to take a look. Just looked like good, strong defending to be honest

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:33 , Luke Baker

31 mins: Not what Chelsea wanted. Enzo Fernandez looks very uncomfortable and he gingerly walks off. Apparently it’s illness. Armando Broja on in his place

CHANCE! Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:31 , Luke Baker

29 mins: Now an even BIGGER chance for Chelsea and Raheem Sterling!

A cutback from the byline falls to Sterling in the centre of the box, he takes a touch to get it out from between his feet and fires goalwards but Guimaraes gets in front of Dubravka to make an unbelievable block (and keep his hands away from the ball!). As good as a save that. Sterling can’t believe it.

CHANCE! Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:30 , Luke Baker

27 mins: A real opportunity for Raheem Sterling! He gets away from defenders down the left and bursts into the box. He tries to curl the ball beyond Dubravka into the far corner but not enough curl and it’s just wide. Dubravka may have had it covered but what a chance!

WATCH: Callum Wilson puts Newcastle ahead

20:29 , Luke Baker

Probably not one to watch if you’re a member of Benoit Badiashile’s family but here’s Callum Wilson’s goal. Lovely run and finish.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:28 , Luke Baker

26 mins: A bit early to think about bringing him on but Christopher Nkunku is warming up and gets a good reception from the Chelsea fans. Surely we’ll see him at some point in the second half.

SAVE! Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:24 , Luke Baker

22 mins: A bit of a defensive gift from Newcastle this time as tow players get in each other’s way and the ball falls to Palmer. He cuts on from the right and fires in a shot at goal which Dubravka gets down well at his near post to push away. It would’ve taken some effort to beat him from there but he’s more than capable.

Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle

20:21 , Luke Baker

20 mins: Newcastle have their tails up now as Tino Livramento makes a good tackle and Gordon is a better touch away from being freed and racing in on goal. Plenty of time for Chelsea to respond but they need to settle down.

GOAL! Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle (Wilson 16’ ⚽)

20:17 , Luke Baker

A defensive disasterclass from Chelsea and Newcastle lead through Callum Wilson!

Wilson outpaces Thiago Silva but it seems a fairly innocuous counter as the Newcastle striker is surrounded by three men. The chasing Benoit Badiashile does well to muscle in front of him but then completely scuffs the ball between his own feet as he goes to clear, it falls back to Wilson and he finds a lovely finish into the corner with the outside of his foot.

Nice work by Wilson but Badiashile has to deal with that.

Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle

20:16 , Luke Baker

15 mins: Enzo goes short with the corner but the cross is well headed away by Miley for a throw-in and Newcastle force Chelsea back

Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle

20:15 , Luke Baker

13 mins: Cole Palmer hasn’t really had a touch for Chelsea so far but he finally gets a bit of room down the right. Disasi then gets to the byline and his cross is blocked out for a corner.

Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle

Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle

20:12 , Luke Baker

10 mins: Cracking opening 10 minutes here and Newcastle have another half-chance. Bruno Guimaraes whips a cross in from the right, it deflects on to the penalty spot and Gordon is charging in to try and get there but Disasi scrambles away in the nick of time.

CROSSBAR! Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle

20:08 , Luke Baker

6 mins: Good start by Newcastle but Enzo Fernandez draws the foul from Lewis Miley to ease the pressure. Conor Gallagher then takes a bit of a hospital pass and launches an attack.

Nicolas Jackson with some room on the right and wins a corner as his shot is blocked. And then it’s OFF THE BAR! Ball comes out to Gallagher on the edge of the area, it sits up and he curls a dipping effort over Martin Dubravka but it rattles the bar and bounces clear! Newcastle survive.

Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle

20:06 , Luke Baker

4 mins: Lively start here by both teams. Newcastle surge forward as Miguel Almiron curls the ball into Gordon’s feet, it bounces up and his shot is blocked over the bar by the covering Axel Disasi for a corner.

Corner is too long and easily cleared

Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle

20:04 , Luke Baker

2 mins: Oooof, that’s a naughty one from Moises Caicedo straight away. He gets a yellow card inside two minutes for a bad rake down the back of Anthony Gordon’s calf from behind.

Is he a bit lucky there’s no VAR? If there were, then it could have been looked at for a red, although yellow maybe about right.

KICK-OFF! Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle

Carabao Cup extra time rules: What happens if quarter-final matches end in a draw?

19:52 , Luke Baker

Tonight’s Carabao Cup quarter-finals will go straight to penalties should they finish as a draw after 90 minutes, with extra-time only coming into play from the semi-final stage of the competition.

Tottenham were knocked out on penalties by Fulham earlier in the tournament, after the second-round match finished as a 1-1 draw following 90 minutes at Craven Cottage.

Those rules will apply again as the last eight begins. Chelsea host Newcastle at Stamford Bridge tonight while Everton face Fulham at Goodison Park. On Wednesday, Liverpool take on West Ham at Anfield and there will be a non-Premier League side in the semi-finals as Port Vale entertain Middlesbrough.

The draw for the semi-finals will take place at the conclusion of Liverpool vs West Ham.

The semi-final stage of the Carabao Cup will played across two legs in January, in the weeks commencing the 8th and 21st.

When is the Carabao Cup semi-final draw?

19:45 , Luke Baker

With the current champions, Manchester United, being eliminated in the previous round there will be a new winner of the Carabao Cup in 2024.

Of the teams remaining in the competition, Liverpool – who won the trophy in 2022 – are the favourites to lift the league cup though they must first get past a strong West Ham United side on Wednesday night.

Last year’s runners-up, Newcastle United, are still in contention too having defeated United in the third round. They travel to London to face Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea tonight.

Elsewhere, the in-form Everton have a strong chance of reaching the semi-finals as they take on Fulham while there is a guaranteed non-Premier League club in the final four as League One’s Port Vale host Championship side Middlesbrough.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Carabao Cup semi-final draw:

Mauricio Pochettino keen to give academy talent path to Chelsea first team

19:37 , Luke Baker

Mauricio Pochettino pledged to keep open a path to the Chelsea first team for academy graduates who prove themselves good enough.

The manager has given debuts this season to six players aged 20 and under, including defender Levi Colwill who has become an England international after featuring in all but one of Pochettino’s games in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Alex Matos, the 19-year-old forward signed from Norwich in the summer, was an unused substitute during Saturday’s 2-0 win against Sheffield United having made his Premier League debut in October against Fulham.

There have also been Chelsea bows for academy graduate Bashir Humphreys, 20, the 18-year-old Brazilian striker Deivid Washington, 19-year-old defender Diego Moreira and Mason Burstow, the 20-year-old forward signed from Charlton in 2022.

Eddie Howe calls on Lewis Miley to take inspiration from fellow academy graduate Sean Longstaff

19:30 , Luke Baker

Eddie Howe has urged teenager Lewis Miley to follow in the footsteps of fellow academy graduate Sean Longstaff as he attempts to establish himself as a regular at Newcastle.

The 17-year-old took another significant step in his fledgling career on Saturday when he became the club’s youngest Premier League goalscorer to inspire his boyhood team to a 3-0 victory over Fulham at St James’ Park.

Miley’s rise since he made his senior debut at Chelsea in May has been hugely impressive, but he still has much to learn and head coach Howe has told him to take his lead from established first-teamer Longstaff, who has already travelled a similar path.

Is VAR being used in the Carabao Cup tonight?

19:20 , Luke Baker

Tonight’s Carabao Cup quarter-finals will be played without VAR, which is only used from the semi-finals onwards in the competition.

The VAR system is not used in the earlier rounds of the Carabao Cup as not all sides in the competition have access to the technology.

The rule remains in place until the semi-finals, where the English Football League will provide VAR to a lower-league club if required.

Chelsea host Newcastle at Stamford Bridge tonight as the Carabao Cup quarter-finals begin, while Everton face Fulham at Goodison Park. On Wednesday, Liverpool take on West Ham at Anfield and there will be a non-Premier League side in the semi-finals as Port Vale entertain Middlesbrough.

Chelsea vs Newcastle predictions: EFL Cup betting tips, odds and free bets

19:10 , Luke Baker

The EFL Cup might have started the season low on the list of priorities for Chelsea and Newcastle, but with the faint whiff of silverware now in the air, tonight’s quarter-final clash has taken on added importance for both clubs (8pm, Sky Sports Main Event).

The Blues would have begun the campaign aiming for a top-four finish after another summer of heavy investment in the squad. But 17 games into the season, the west London side are 12 points off fourth and as big as 16/1 in the Premier League odds to claim a Champions League spot.

With no European football on the agenda, going deep in both domestic cup competitions could be key to Mauricio Pochettino impressing the demanding Chelsea hierarchy.

They are second-favourites with football betting sites to win the EFL Cup at 7/2 with Betway and odds-on to see off last season’s runners-up Newcastle.

Here are three betting tips for tonight’s clash:

Prediction

Chelsea seem to be developing some decent form under Mauricio Pochettino who will be targeting silverware to ease the pressure on his team. With home advantage they will be a real threat to Newcastle who have developed a tendency to knock out strong Premier League teams during this League Cup run. The sides seem evenly matched and this one may come down to a penalty shootout.

Chelsea 1-1 Newcastle (Chelsea to win on penalties).

Will we see Christopher Nkunku?

18:40 , Luke Baker

That’s the question on the lips of Chelsea fans this evening. They’ve waited patiently to see their £52m man since his pre-season injury.

He underwent knee surgery at the start of August after picking up the issue in pre-season and a lot of Blues supporters are pinning their hopes on Nkunku to solve their attacking woes.

The 26-year-old signed from RB Leipzig in the summer and he’s made 10 France appearances in his career. Whether he lines up as the centre forward in the ‘Nicolas Jackson’ role or a bit deeper remains to be seen.

He was on the bench in the weekend win over Sheffield United but wasn’t brought on by Mauricio Pochettino. Could tonight be the night? Team news will be in about 20 minutes.

A blockbuster Carabao Cup quarter-final takes place on Tuesday evening as Chelsea host Newcastle United. A less than stellar Premier League campaign for Mauricio Pochettino’s side can be overshadowed by a strong cup run and some possible silverware but first the Blues must defeat last season’s runners-up.

Chelsea reached the last eight after wins over Brighton and Blackburn Rovers yet this match will be their most difficult test. Newcastle hammered the London side 4-1 in the league back in November and will be confident of claiming another victory this time out.

Eddie Howe’s team, though weakened by injuries to a big chunk of the squad, defeated Fulham 3-0 at the weekend and have responded well from their Champions League exit.

So far in the League Cup they have beaten Manchester City and Manchester United and if they go on to lift the trophy this year they will have done it the hard way.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the Carabao Cup quarter-final:
