Charles Barkley did not hold back after Kentucky was knocked out of another NCAA Tournament.
John Calipari and his Wildcats melting down in March Madness has almost become an annual ritual.
After No. 3 Kentucky suffered one of the biggest upsets in tournament history with an 80-76 defeat to No. 14 Oakland on Thursday, Barkley delivered an all-time one-liner that captured the Wildcats’ inexplicable struggles in The Dance.
“Kentucky is getting McDonald’s All Americans,” Barkley said.
Meanwhile, the teams that are beating Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament are getting guys that eat at McDonald’s,’ Barkley said.
Jack Gohlke became a viral sensation for the Golden Grizzlies, sinking 10 3-pointers and taking 20 during the huge upset.
“Charles always tells you how it is,” one fan wrote.
“Charles is 100 percent correct,” a second fan posted.
Barkley set up his strong words by saying that Calipari has too much talent at Kentucky not to make a strong run in the tournament.
The Wildcats have a 2400-760-1 all-time record, which includes 56 conference championships, 62 NCAA Tournament appearances and eight national championships.
But Kentucky hasn’t won it all since 2012 and Calipari has struggled to adapt to the NCAA’s one-and-done era during the NIL period.
Other lesser teams have surpassed the Wildcats on a national level, and Kentucky hasn’t reached the Final Four since 2015.
While other big-name programs have also stumbled in the NCAA’s new world order, Kentucky has become the symbol of failing to deliver on NBA talent in the college game.
“The Kentucky-Oakland game was a dynamic loss in terms of expectations of fans around the country,” analyst Kenny Smith said.
Barkley fired back, hammering Kentucky again.
“Good job, Captain Obvious. Captain Obvious over here,” Barkley jabbed at Smith. “That was a dynamic loss by Kentucky.”
“Charles beating up on Kenny like a piñata with that Captain Obvious,” one fan tweeted.
“How many Kentucky NBA 1st round picks on the last three teams?” a second fan posted.
“Charles is a national treasure and must be protected at all costs,” a third fan said.
