Doctor breaks down viral photo

The inflamed elbow on the throwing arm of highly touted 2024 NFL Draft prospect Jayden Daniels is apparently no cause for concern.

This week, a photo went viral showing Daniels to have a lump about the size of a golf ball hanging off his right elbow.

The Post asked Dr. Laith M. Jazrawi, the Chief of the Division of Sports Medicine at NYU Langone Orthopedics, for his opinion on what was going on with the 23-year-old’s elbow and what it might mean.

“He has olecranon bursitis,” Dr. Jazrawi believes.

The doctor described the symptoms as swelling and “sometimes pain, sometimes no pain.”

How does one fix this issue?

“You can get a cortisone injection, or you can surgically remove the bursa,” Dr. Jazrawi said.

“The downtime for something like that is two-to-three weeks for a bursa excision, or you can play the whole season with it because it’s generally not that painful.”

He could not remember a situation like this causing a lasting issue for an athlete.

“It’s surgically corrected. It’s not a reconstruction or a ligament repair,” Dr. Jazrawi continued.

“It’s nothing you need to wait on healing time. It’s really, you take it out and you’re fine. And it’s not even painful to begin with for some people, which likely includes Daniels, because he had it and he wasn’t complaining. It sounds like he played pretty well.”

Daniels threw for 3,812 yards with 40 touchdowns and just four interceptions at LSU last season, and won the Heisman trophy for his exploits.

He is likely to be a top-three pick in the upcoming NFL Draft and could conceivably go as high as second overall, with Drake Maye being the other possibility.

Caleb Williams is at this time expected to go No. 1 overall to the Bears, but we still have a month to see if anything might shake up at the top of the draft boards.
