Opening band withdraws from Mac Saturn tour after keyboardist arrested

The openers for Mac Saturn’s national tour announced their withdrawal from the tour after FBI agents arrested the Mac Saturn keyboardist on child pornography charges Friday.

Mac Saturn keyboardist Evan Daniel Mercer, 30, was arrested hours before the band’s headline show at The Fillmore Detroit on Friday. He now faces several charges including enticement of a minor and producing and/or attempting to produce child pornography.

Mac Saturn announced Mercer was “no longer a member of the band” in a social media post shortly after The Detroit News broke the story.

The Thing with Feathers, an indie rock band that was set to open for Mac Saturn on its upcoming coast-to-coast North America headline tour, announced they were withdrawing from the tour in a statement on social media Saturday afternoon.

“While we were hoping to see our dearest friends and fans across North America over the coming months, we simply cannot continue in light of the recent revelations,” the band said in the statement.

The Thing with Feathers had already canceled its Friday performance with Mac Saturn at The Fillmore Detroit following news of the arrest. The Nashville-based band said in the statement that they would return to their Tennessee base to continue work on a new record.

The Friday show was set to be a tour launch and release party for Mac Saturn’s first physical album, “Hard to Sell.”
