Plans revealed for sequel to classic Adam Sandler movie

UNDATED (WKRC) – Fans of classic Adam Sandler comedies got some unexpected news on Friday.

Sandler is reportedly in the processof creating a sequel to the 1996 movie “Happy Gilmore.”

Christopher McDonald, who played the pro-golfer antagonist Shooter McGavin in the film, revealed the plans during a segment on “The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima.”

“I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this.’ I said, ‘What?’ He says, ’How ‘bout that,’ [and] he shows me the first draft of ‘Happy Gilmore 2,'” the 69-year-old actor said.

Sources say the sequel will be slated for Netflix, though Sandler himself has yet to officially confirm the project.

“Maybe you should cut that out, because I don’t wanna be a liar, but he did show me that [the draft], and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome,’” said McDonald. “So, it’s in the works. Fans demand it, damn it. Adam’s just killing it out there.”

The original film grossed $38.8 million and also starred Julie Bowen (“Modern Family,” “Lost,” “Weeds”).

Co-stars Carl Weathers (“Rocky,” “Predator”), Richard Kiel (“Moonraker,” “The Spy Who Loved Me”) and Bob Barker (“The Price is Right”), have all since passed away.

Sandler and his company, Happy Madison Productions, have long had a deal with Netflix.

His latest projects to be released on the streaming platform include the animated movie “Leo,” sci-fi adventure “Spaceman,” and an upcoming comedy special.

“Adam’s just killing it out there,” McDonald said. “I saw his latest Netflix comedy show. I was laughing [at] everything. Everything was in tears. He’s so freaking funny. So, we had a great time and when I saw that, I was very, very pleased.”
