Boston police are investigating a shooting death in Dorchester after a victim was found with a gunshot wound to the head on Friday.
According to the Boston Police Department, officers responding to Corona Street located the adult male victim just after 2 p.m. while responding to a ShotSpotter activation.
The victim, found on the sidewalk outside of 46 Corona St., was later pronounced dead at the scene as authorities sealed off the road and homicide detectives arrived and started collecting evidence.
Neighbors who spoke to 7NEWS said they were horrified by the violence in broad daylight.
“Coming here and seeing something like this is absolutely horrible,” said Tonya Godfrey.
“We don’t know what happened here or who that was, so it was really worrying to come home and see all this,” said Deja Godfrey.
Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden also spoke at the scene, denouncing the violence and appealing to the public for help in the ongoing investigation.
“We, our office and law enforcement, will do everything we can to bring the perpetrator of this incident to justice,” Hayden told reporters. “We need the community’s help. If anyone knows anything about what has happened here, we need your help, we need your assistance.”
Investigators were seen canvassing the neighborhood around the site of this shooting as part of their investigation. Authorities were also seeking surveillance video from the area.
Homicide detectives remained on scene as of around 5 p.m., with the area sealed off.
No arrests had been made and no other details were immediately released.
