Tiger Woods struggles Sunday at Masters 2024, walks off course in last

AUGUSTA, Ga. — After a historically bad performance on Saturday, Tiger Woods rebounded on Sunday at the 2024 Masters.

Playing his 100th round at Augusta National Golf Club after setting the record for most consecutive cuts made at the Masters with 24, Woods was joined by his son, Charlie, on the range before he shot a 5-over 77 in the final round. Woods walked off the course at 16 over in last place among those who made the cut.

The score looked worse than the performance for Woods on Sunday as he made 12 pars on the day but struggled over a three-hole stretch on the first nine.

“Well, I think that just the wind and what it was doing out here to the golf shots and the balls and putting, how difficult the course was playing. It doesn’t take much to get out of position here,” Woods explained after his round. “Unfortunately, I got out of position a lot yesterday and a couple times today.”

A birdie at No. 2 was a false dawn as he then made a bad bogey on No. 3 due to a chip that rolled back to his feet after he nearly drove green on the short par 4. After a par on No. 4, Woods then hit a bad tee shot into the trees to the right of the fifth fairway and was unable to play from there or take a clean drop. He was forced to re-tee for his third shot then struggled to get home and eventually made triple bogey after his putt for double scared the edge.

Another bogey blemish on No. 7 seemed as if it would derail his round but Woods was able to bounce back and make eight straight pars before another bogey due to an unforced error on No. 15. Pars on his final three holes put to bed a largely forgettable weekend that had all the potential to be one to remember.

“It was a good week. It was a good week all around,” Tiger said of his four days. “I think that coming in here, not having played a full tournament in a very long time, it was a good fight on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately yesterday it didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted it to.”

Had it not been for the weather delay on Thursday that forced Woods to play five extra (and early) holes on Friday, the week could’ve looked quite different for the 15-time major champion. When he walked off the course on Thursday evening, he was 1 under through 13 holes.

On Friday he bogeyed two of his final five holes and was visibly uncomfortable as his surgically repaired and held-together body clashed with brisk morning conditions. Woods grinded to make the cut by five shots and afterward said the long day on Friday was the catalyst for his historically bad performance on Saturday, which doomed his weekend for a dead-last finish after his ho-hum Sunday.
