‘Time traveling’ passengers gutted after delay ruins New Year’s two-fer flight

They were too late for New Year Happy Hour.

Ecstatic passengers on a “time machine” flight were left fuming after an airline mishap resulted in them missing out on the chance to celebrate the New Year — twice. Tweets detailing the missed NYE two-fer are going viral as time travel hopefuls voiced their chagrin.

The 3,000-mile flight United Airlines flight was scheduled to depart Guam at 7:35 a.m. on January 1, 2024, and land in Honolulu, Hawaii at 6:50 p.m. on December 31, 2023, due to the 20-hour time difference between the two locations, Kennedy News reported.

This meant that passengers would effectively get to travel back to the past and ring in the New Year twice.

“You only live once, but you can celebrate New Year’s Eve twice!” exclaimed United Airlines in an X post announcing the potential Happy Two Year.

Unfortunately, flyers had to say sayonara to their “Back To The Future”-esque fantasy after the seven-hour flight was delayed by six and a half hours.

As a result, they landed in Hawaii at 12:35 am on January 1, missing the New Year’s Eve countdown.

Passengers were none too thrilled about missing out on the holiday happy hour.

“Great idea, too bad it got delayed!” lamented one dismayed traveler on X. “I was supposed to be on this flight. Double new year isn’t happening anymore. Maybe next year?”

Many had booked the flight specifically so they’d get the opportunity to go back in time.

“We’re booked on the flight. Planned our entire vacation around it for a year,” rued another. “Just got [the] notification that it’s delayed and won’t land until 1:10 am [January 1st].”

A third fumed, “I booked this flight specifically so I could do this. I got a delay notification and we aren’t scheduled to get in until 1/1. This Tweet is aging poorly now and I’m dissatisfied with how this was promoted but not being delivered.”

United Airlines responded to some angry messages, apologizing for the delays.

The Post has reached out to the airline for comment.
