Most importantly, that Direct held my attention enough I still have some cookie left. I’m going to go eat that.
The most interesting thing perhaps for me was that summer 2024 date for Luigi’s Mansion 2.
Either Switch 2 is later than summer or Nintendo is planning to overlap launches for systems in a way we’ve not seen since 3DS and GBA.
BJive says: Wow, that was a disappointing Direct for me. Underwhelmed does not begin to describe my feelings. And yet again nothing on Metroid Prime (remasters or 4). Grrrr…
I think at this point you have to ask – do you still want a new Metroid Prime on eight year old hardware, or would you rather play it on something more capable?
And a bit of a push to clear out anything still hanging around the eShop not yet released.
I thought that was decent, some nice things to look forward to for the Nintendo faithful even if we are definitely now in the remake/re-release/B-character-heavy part of Switch’s life.
SBandy says: @the9000
This just about makes up for the lack of GX!
Look, F-Zero 99 is your F-Zero game for the next 10 years.
Fall in love with Paper Princess Peach and much more in 2024.
The best Paper Mario game is coming to Switch… and looks brilliant!
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door remake confirmed
Okay, it’s not Pikmin 4 DLC, but I’ll take it.
Time for the big finish…
SBandy says: @Tufo
It really does have to be backwards compatible for me.
Or cross-buy.
Among Us gets a new map next month, named the Fungle. Sure!
Daisy Circuit! Diddy Kong! Funky Kong! Pauline! Peachette for some reason! Mario Kart 8’s final dollop of DLC is coming this winter, and is getting a retail version to be put in stockings.
SBandy says: Fair to say Switch 2 is not coming out before the end of next year.
Hmmm.
Dave the Diver! Very popular around these parts. Switch has the console launch exclusive next month on 26th October.
Eastward is expanding this winter with Octopia, a DLC for Chucklefish’s cute farming life sim.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes comes to Switch next year, on 23rd April.
the9000 says: 99 looks cool, but in typical fan mode it’s really something based on X or GX I crave. SNES F-Zero ain’t quite the thing. See you later in 99 either way!
A GX remake would be lovely. Still time to do it before GameCube eventually gets dumped on NSO!
WarioWare: Move It arrives 3rd November.
Oh it has a version of Red Light Green Light now?
WarioWare is on holiday for his latest set of microgames. And you’re using gestures – this reminds me of the Wii version.
And another one! Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story arrives on 1st November.
Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story looks very cute! I am not a League of Legends fan but open to trying other bits of media after falling head over heels for Arcane.
F-Zero 99 launches today!
Tufo says: O what somebody here predicted exactly this?
Word of it had reached some corners of the internet earlier this week…
There’s now a higher race track you can leap up to and overtake opponents.
F-Zero 99 announced
It’s the original F-Zero but now a 99 game for Nintendo Switch Online players!
Amiibo time! Zelda and Ganondorf this year. Sora completes the Smash set in 2024.
Do people still buy amiibo?
Nintendo’s plans to open a museum are continuing – expect that early next year if you’re in the area!
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD launches on Switch next summer
Huh! Is that a mini delay for Luigi? Very interesting to see Switch support lasting until the summer of 2024 as well…
Sometimes I just find myself humming the Luigi’s Mansion theme tune.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 time! Or Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon time if you’d prefer.
Coming from Atlus on 8th March 2024.
“The rebirth of tactical RPGs” is actually called Unicorn Overlord, because of course it is.
Faux Emblem!
Contra! Operation Galuga is a re-imagining of the classic from Konami and Wayforward, coming early 2024.
The mythology-inspired Battle Crush is an NCSoft brawler coming in spring, with a beta test in October.
The meme-tastic Trombone Champ heads to Switch today! Toot.
To be fair the Detective Pikachu movie was pretty good until its story dropped all sense of internal logic in the last 20 minutes.
Detective Pikachu 2 is the longest I’ve waited for the conclusion of a story I already saw in a movie.
the9000 says: Ok Princess Peach Showtime looks pretty fantastic. And it’s in keeping with todays theme of being nothing to do with F-Zero. Five stars.
There’s still time for F-Zero…
Lara turns up on Valentines Day 2024.
Huh! Tomb Raider 1, 2 and 3 are headed to Nintendo Switch, because of course. And yes, the old polygon visuals are in.
SaGa Emerald Beyond from Square Enix there, coming in 2024.
Zak says: Peach fan-artists are gonna have a field day
Yes.
Princess Peach: Showtime launches 22nd March 2024!
This looks fun! And is better than the Peach emotion stuff the last time she got her own game.
Peach with a rapier in a muskateer costume, Peach as a Sherlock Holmes-style murder investigator, Chef Peach, Kung Fu Peach…
Princess Peach: Showtime detailed
A stage-set adventure, Peach uses a magic ribbon to attack and change into costumes which grant special abilities.
Now titled Another Code Recollection, the full package launches 19th January.
Another Code R, the sequel, is included too!
Another Code: Two Memories headed to Switch
This was a DS classic! A really welcome surprise to see this return.
November 17th for Super Mario RPG! Mark that in your calendars.
Super Mario RPG looks great – just a perfect mix of the old SNES visuals with proper 3D.
Next up is Super Crazy Rhythm Castle, a Konami rhythm battle game out in November.
Horizon Chase 2 is a racer from… Epic Games? Or published by Epic, anyway. But still stuck on Nintendo’s online servers.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown time now, a game no one liked when it was announced via CGI trailer but which feels very good to actually play, people who have gone hands-on actually tell me.
It has co-op now! And it’s out February 16th 2024.
Mario vs Donkey Kong announced
And here’s your Donkey Kong game! It’s Mario vs Donkey Kong for Nintendo Switch.
It’s repeatable content so you can play over and over – coming in spring 2024.
It’s a very futuristic Splatoon with a lot of numbers on screen! This is Side Order, part of the game’s Expansion Pass.
And we’re off!
Today’s Nintendo Direct begins with Splatoon 3…
Vordus says: I think we need more information there, Tom. How enormous?
Saucer-sized, maybe slightly more enormous?
Almost time! I’ve got a fresh coffee and an enormous cookie I’m going to try not to eat all of during the first trailer.
Porkface says: Ooooh that coverage banner for this live report is hot! I don’t know why I’m doing this to myself but I’m choosing to believe the F-Zero news will be GX-related rather than just the GBA game arriving on NSO.
Thank you! All credit to our tech team who rolled this out in the nick of time. I like it too!
An hour away…
Time to get in your final predictions! Is it Princess Peach’s showtime? F-Zero’s long-awaited return?
dbaner says: Because we’re also getting a PS indie showcase later seems to imply we’re getting an announcement about a big indie game coming to both very soon. Stealth Silksong release tonight confirmed!
Without wanting to bust any Silksong bubbles, Nintendo and Sony had shows on the same day previously around this time – it’s more to line up with Tokyo Games Show, which runs next week in Japan.
Really hoping we’ll see more of Nintendo’s currently untitled Princess Peach game. Here’s a reminder of the glimpse we saw at the last Direct…
SupremeAC says: Really hope they’ll give us some F-zero. Then I can stop asking about it after all these years and start nagging for a new WaveRace!
Ok Reggie, but where’s Mother 3?!
HighFlyingBird says: Come on Galaxy 2 and Windwaker ports 🙏🏼
No DLC for Tears of the Kingdom leaves the end of this year Zelda-free, though I wonder if Wind Waker/Twilight Princess might reappear further down the line, to help plug the long wait for an all-new Zelda.
There’s a lot of chatter online about hopes for both F-Zero and Donkey Kong – could Nintendo still have new projects to announce?
Ahoy there! It’s Nintendo Direct time – or it will be in just a couple of hours. What might Nintendo still have up its sleeve for Switch?
